Picaresque

Picaresque is the adjective to describe writings about a common or low character who survives the pitfalls of life through luck or good fortune. My travels, interests, my animals, my photographs, my wonderful friends and family are featured.

(Note: Blogs read from bottom to top; scroll down for beginnings, scroll up for most current.) After 30 years in public administration and four degrees, as well as numerous workshops with luminaries in Education and Public Policy, life in a slower lane became a goal. Most recently I have done policy writing and consulting for the Northern Arapaho and Eastern Shoshone Tribes. Mostly, I am just coasting slowly and gently downhill these days-seeking joy where I can find it before the glorious ride ends.

Channeling Mary Poppins

Light rain in the morning. Did a little hand-waxing on the RV. Hit the grocery store and we scooted to Deerfield to babysit Juneau. Buster was glad to see him and he was glad to see us. I'd shopped to fix a light dinner for my busy kids and Eve that I could leave on the stove. Big pot of "Kitchen Sink Pea Soup," stuffed celery and green pepper canapes, ham and good bread, cut fruit. Juneau and Buster helped me cook. (B: "ham's good, more ham." J: "Yeah, more ham. carrots are nice. Celery sucks-maybe with peanut butter?" B: "needs more ham." They are eager helpers but not adventurous enough to cook yet. Dogs sometimes give bad advice on vegetables.)

Then I watered the plants in the planter, siliconed the squeaky patio chairs, played with the dogs. Juneau enjoyed a good rub and a belly scratch after a tug-of-war game. He was so mellow. I love my grandpuppy. We boogied to beat the rush hour traffic. That strategy was only partially successful.

When I got home I felt the pork chops were starting to look a little peaked and had better be cooked. I am using up stuff so I made chicken fried pork chops, baked potato, and applesauce. Felt guilty about the pea soup down south because my dinner was right tasty and more substantial.

Eve and Lori went to an Esther Hicks workshop today. They called and appreciated the food-gave them time to take a last cruise before Eve takes off tomorrow. They were settling down to American Idol and soup having taken the canapes on the cruise. Pea soup farts will be my gift to Southwest Airlines. Oh, I forgot-ladies don't fart.

Had email from Joyce- they arrived in Jacksonville without incident. Ken from Thunder Bay, Ontario started sending me dirty jokes which are ones I haven't seen before. Had some pretty funny ones from home too-old friend jokes, though told well. Brother Rich reports Casper weather is pretty good but the blizzards southward have killed several. I am going to watch the weather carefully and dawdle as necessary.
