Picaresque

Picaresque is the adjective to describe writings about a common or low character who survives the pitfalls of life through luck or good fortune. My travels, interests, my animals, my photographs, my wonderful friends and family are featured.

(Note: Blogs read from bottom to top; scroll down for beginnings, scroll up for most current.) After 30 years in public administration and four degrees, as well as numerous workshops with luminaries in Education and Public Policy, life in a slower lane became a goal. Most recently I have done policy writing and consulting for the Northern Arapaho and Eastern Shoshone Tribes. Mostly, I am just coasting slowly and gently downhill these days-seeking joy where I can find it before the glorious ride ends.

Getting Ready for Oregon

If it all comes together, including a package that is overdue, Thursday will see us heading to Oregon to see that part of the family. Wyoming is already greening from the moisture and it should be a beautiful trip. I have been re-configuring the green Ford van for this trip-in fact I considered the Dodge Van because of better gas mileage but I will bite the bullet on the gas and take all my stuff. I have checked the roads according to my bookmarks and road cams and it looks like smooth sailing. Each state has linked their highway department sites to contiguous states so it is pretty easy to check.

I felt sad because the bunny that was so happy eating my clover appeared to be roadkill down by the corrals. Of course where there is one bunny there are more bunnies, so unless there was a resurrection, the bunny in the yard this afternoon was alive and well. In fact, there may be a family of them. Buster is partial to bunny meat, whether roadkill or fresh. He is learning though- one sharp "No!" and he gave up on taking the flat rabbit to my bed where he could consume it at his leisure. It disappeared overnight and he was bummed this morning. It's a dog's life, somedays.

I spent some time looking for a sports drink today with no luck. I found an approximation. Some friends had given me Advantage by Power Ade for Christmas but I set it aside because the Van was packed to the gills. That was probably a mistake. I tried it Sunday and immediately felt better. So I checked the ingredients. Taurine was the only new substance I could see. This was a new one on me. I researched it and it is supposed to expand the blood vessels and other innards. Very beneficial for the blood pressure. When I return I will order Taurine from Swanson's because me and a sports drink is like Paris Hilton and a book by Proust- incongruous to the point of being ridiculous.
