Picaresque

Picaresque is the adjective to describe writings about a common or low character who survives the pitfalls of life through luck or good fortune. My travels, interests, my animals, my photographs, my wonderful friends and family are featured.

(Note: Blogs read from bottom to top; scroll down for beginnings, scroll up for most current.) After 30 years in public administration and four degrees, as well as numerous workshops with luminaries in Education and Public Policy, life in a slower lane became a goal. Most recently I have done policy writing and consulting for the Northern Arapaho and Eastern Shoshone Tribes. Mostly, I am just coasting slowly and gently downhill these days-seeking joy where I can find it before the glorious ride ends.

Got the Drizzlies

I hurried in the coolness of Monday morning to whack weeds and got to the "dribs and drabs, only details left," stage because rain was forecasted for several days running. And the forecast was right. We have had 10 hours of drizzle and more promised. It really is pretty pleasant at this point. We made a supply run with the weather in mind so we have a few snacks and some grub and can read, surf, nap or (shudder) clean. It got pretty cool last night and that made for good snuggling-I was reluctant to get out of the covers this morning but Buster, who plays out first, was ready to go out. Honey just came in soaked to the skin and refused a toweling off-it is going to be a wet dog day.

Cousins Russ and Kristen had to put their Maddie dog down yesterday. That is so sad and they have had horrible luck with their dogs. They favor Bull Mastiffs which are huge, gentle loving animals. Madison was just great. Large breeds simply don't live as long as other breeds but they have had two in a row who got cancer, had to have hind legs amputated and extensive treatment that eventually failed. Heartbreaking. So a wet dog is a trifle. Love 'em while you have 'em.
